The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Elk Grove West consistently receives negative feedback, citing cleanliness issues, malfunctioning amenities (like AC and laundry), and unresponsive staff. Recent reviews highlight concerns about pest infestations, uncomfortable room conditions, and poor communication from hotel management. Value for money appears to be declining due to the observed issues.
This is the 6th time in 7 months that we've stayed here due to a family member being ill. Our stay this time was for the memorial of said family member The walls are thin but if you're not near the elevator or ice machine it's not too bad This weekend, we had to replace our keycards at least once daily. Saturday, we had to replace them twice! My shower on Sunday, the day of the memorial, was cold and such a light trickle I couldn't wash my hair! My shower on Monday was hot but still just a trickle! I'll wash my hair when I get home! Not sure what's happened over the last 7 months but the price has increased 20% and the value has decreased significantly! We will be finding another hotel to stay at in Sacramento!!!
Great Location - walkable to restaurants/coffee, easy access to I-5. Room: clean, modern, spacious, but the refillable lotion bottle in the bathroom smelled like mildew, and our 4-person room had only 2 towels. Service: One employee was working (not the 'on shift manager' whose name was posted) as fast as he could to deal with reservations, housekeeping items, refilling the ice water, and several other things, but they really needed to schedule an additional person, because the wait was long for anything. Pool area: not heated, so unswimmable for half the year (even for my child who can usually swim in the cold); the hot tub was closed for repair. Breakfast: adequate for what was expected.
Disappointing stay Stayed one night in January 2026. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that guest experience is not a priority here. The room was not clean. There were visible stains, dust, and mold in the room. Bed was defective and maintenance was clearly ignored rather than fixed. Noisy all night too. Staff were indifferent at best and unhelpful when concerns were brought up. There was little to no sense of accountability or apology for the inconveniences. I would not stay here again and cannot recommend this hotel to others.
Staff was amazing which makes it hard for me to leave this review. But the room that I got put in was far from up to par. The shower ran cold and the bathtub had rust stains everywhere as well as the tub being 2 different colors. Door handles were broken. I was so disgusted, I checked out early. The man that works at night, I forgot to get his name, he was super nice and respectful same with Diane who I met this morning. They need some serious upgrades to match the energy of the staff.
I wish leaving zero stars was an option, And I am not one to ever ever leave a bad review. Probably the worst experience I’ve had at a hotel that is attached to a brand that is reputably Decent. I was overcharged paying for the deposit, which I shouldn’t have even had seeing as how I am a platinum rewards member. I was never offered my complimentary Gift from the incompetent desk clerk, It has been two weeks since I checked out and trying to get a hold of the manager to see where my deposit is is impossible. If you’re OK with losing money and a creepy dude checking you in, Stay here… otherwise avoid these scammers.
I love the location…a lot you can walk to and seems to be a nice area of town. The rooms were clean, but other reviews are right; the a/c is hard to control and not consistent in temperature. We called ahead to ask about laundry and they said they had guest laundry facilities. When we checked in we were even offered quarters when we asked for the laundry location. But this morning when we went to use it, it was out of order. I asked the desk clerk and he said there was nothing he could do and they he doesn’t know about maintenance issues. We explained that we called specifically to verify that there was laundry and were told 12 hours before that it was available. He shrugged us off. This was frustrated because we couldn’t change our reservation but they didn’t have what they said they did.
I am writing this because I am very angry with the service I received at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Elk Grove West I-5. I have been using IHG for years both overseas and here on the US mainland. I have never gotten such horrible service as I am getting right now at this property. The only saving grace right now is Jenn from reservations...she is the only reason I have not left and gone to a different hotel right now. I booked a King suite room as I usually do. I booked this room because I like the amenities in the room such as the sofa and coffee table. It provides me with a way to relax and feel like I am home even when on the road. This hotel is different. The problems started when I called in to try and check in early because I was running a little ahead of schedule. The front desk agent was extremely rude. When I arrived in town, I went straight to the hotel and the same front desk agent was rude to me again. I understand about check in times and I am not an idiot in spite of what this front desk agent says and thinks! I went and had lunch and came back to the hotel. Upon checking in, I went to my room to find that the amenities I was expecting were not there in my room and again the front desk agent was rude and the situation. I asked to speak to the manager and she implied that I was stupid and I didn't know how to book the proper room. Keep in mind that I paid extra for this larger king size suite. The manager said there was nothing she could do...so I said I would just call corporate....to which she said, "fine"! I have stayed with IHG all over the world and I've NEVER been treated this bad. I'm pissed. And again...if it were not for Jenn in reservations I would have left and gone to another hotel. The behavior of the staff and the lack of amenities in this room are completely unacceptable. I definitely expect someone to call me about this issue and I will complain and keep complaining until something is done about this and I get an acceptable resolution. I am including photos of this horrible room with this email so you can see that this room is not up to the IHG standards I have come to expect after years of staying with this brand. Also... My reservation amount said total charges were $161.52 and my credit card was charged $208.89 ...I will be reporting this to the California State Attorney General's Office.
Do not go there. We stayed for a couple of weeks and they had rats really bad. Not just the dumpster and parking lot but inside too. The rats were chewing into the AC units on the ground floors. I was walking my dig and she found their nest and was getting all excited. I pulled her away to see it was their nest about 15 feet away from the dumpsters. We tried to let them know and they just smiled but didn’t follow up. The pool was dirty and we kept finding glass. There was a kid baseball tournament the whole week and all of their Nevada guests were drunk/ loud at the pool and my kid couldn’t enjoy the pool so we left. It was like that the whole time. The hot tub was filthy and broken. The night staff was unfriendly and they didn’t mange their other guests well. Very rowdy, sounded like they were at the batting cages on more than one night. The fire alarm was pulled by one of the guests kids. The manager approached my boyfriend saying we were in the wrong for not having our room cleaned but we weren’t impeding the staff from cleaning our room. In fact, we were out all day and every day. We were doing our house hunting and moving. The manager confronted him like it was an accusation. I tired to let them know that we might have a misinformed when the rooms are supposed to be clean. We’re out by 9 and don’t come back until evening. The manager was unapproachable, hard to talk to and rude. I usually try to let things go when it’s service related because I get that people are just doing a job. I used to work in service. I get it. But for all of this stuff to be going on and now we’re on the chop block because she doesn’t communicate well with her staff. The parking lot had a lot of people sitting in their car and then leaving, kinda weird. The manager was hard to communicate with; confrontational and did not show any care or regard toward guests or the staff. I saw her yell and lecture the staff more than once. The room was not clean, the shower didn’t drain and the bathroom didn’t have a fan or towels. We stayed almost 4 weeks total and they only gave us new towels once. We had to ask. They were always out. It was us two and our daughter. We weren’t going through them ridiculously. We didn’t say anything or make a big stink. We were almost done with our house hunting and moving when The manager asked when we leaving in front of guests during breakfast. It was kind of discomforting. Haha like why do you hate us being here so much??? maybe she didn’t like dogs. Oh yea, our dog was always with us and never barked. Some lady had her window open and her chihuahuas were barking all evening all morning. I know because if they were in their room when I smoked outside they would slam their window. Any don't come here, were at an extended stay and moved to this hotel for the pool. We wish we hadn’t.
